Vets (Masters) League
2009
Match 1: An excellent 1st match result by 10 points from Abingdon, with great wins for our two new T&F team members Henry Chitsenga and Rob Webster. (Full results attached below)
Match 2: Well done again. 2 out of 2 wins (Full results attached below). The final for all the League winning teams will again be at Ashford, on Sunday 6th September, so please put this in your diaries. Cheers, John
Match3: Second place but we were short of some of our sprinters and long jumpers on the night, so well done to all those that filled in to get 'damage limitation'. With 2 wins and a second place we'll need a good team out for the final match at Bracknell to guarantee reaching the final. (Full results attached below)
Match 4: It would have been nice to win; but we'll settle for the draw - which means we keep our 100% record of winning the league; 2 wins, 1 second and 1 draw. We were helped by fantastic efforts on the night by Trevor winning the M50 pole vault - at the first time of ever trying! And Chris Padmore standing in for the M35 200 and coming an excellent 3rd. And a great effort from Howard Papworth winning the M50 Triple Jump. Excellent performances too from Steve Whelan, Rob Webster, Andrew Gleeson, Julian Richardson, Phil Huxley, Brian Green, Dave Kuester and Manny Stone. John (Full results attached below)
2009 Final Ashford - Unfortunately due to injuries and holidays etc. we were unable to field a competitive and so for the first time in 20 years Oxford City did not compete in the finals. Roll on 2010!
2008 Final, Ashford, Saturday 6th September
An excellent effort - I don't know if Blackheath & Bromley (winners) realise how lucky they were that Gareth Davies unfortunately pulled a hamstring warming up for the long jump! I conservatively reckon that we would otherwise have won by 1 point! We all wish Gareth a speedy recovery Mention must also be made of Chris Sykes's excellent win in the M50 800 against Bob Minting of B&B in a time of 2:13, but was unfortunate to be disqualified for a minor infringement of the green break line. Our theoretical victory could otherwise have been a comfortable 9 to 10 points, but as it happened it made no difference to our creditable 3rd place. I must also confess to my utter failure to register a height in the M60 high jump. Thank goodness Bruce Hendrie turns 60 in a couple of weeks! Bruce Charles ran his very last race for us in the M60 200m, after about 17 years of excellent performances for us, Bruce is retiring from competition, having struggled with injuries for some years. Bruce was instrumental in establishing us as a major force in Veteran athletics in the early days. He is still going to be active in coaching, and promotions - he is running the BMAF Decathlon and Heptathlon Champs at Horspath on 13th and 14th Sept. We all wish you well Bruce. Finally, many thanks to Margaret and Barrie Strange who officiated all day, and thus relieved our athletes from OCAC quota of duties. 2008 results attached below John Exley
