This weekends Southern Women League match got off to a disorganised start when Jackie (one of the team managers) realised at 3.30pm on Friday that she had booked the adults into the B&B for the wrong weekend! Oh dear, could this be an omen?
Things appeared to be following this path when we reached Minehead to find all the fish and chip shops shut! A minibus full of hungry tired teenagers, with seemingly no where to eat is a dangerous place to be! We managed to find a KFC, only to be told, ‘We’ve run out of chicken and not making any more ‘cause we close in half an hour’ So chips it was, not really good athlete food, but when your desperate…
A new day, surely things had to improve – please? – but no, the fire alarm went off at 6am, leaving us all standing outside the Youth Hostel, in our PJ’s looking very much the worse for wear.
However, once at the track things began to look up. The team were keen, fed, covered in sun cream and ready for the off. Sun cream being a necessity as the temperatures soared to a whopping 23˚
On the track Tilly Vaughan-Fowler got a PB in her 200m, Jade Walker got a new time for the 400m of 68.9 and won the 3000m B string in a time of 11.39.8, Lisa Sammons gained a new PB in the 800m with 2.44.2 and Diane Sharp ran an impressive 800m in 3.03.3. It was touch and go for a win in the 300mH but Zoe Webber managed to pull it off in a time of 56.0 – well done Zoe! A new PB for Alice Hopkins in the 200m with 31.3 and Beth Mulvany in the 800m with 2.41.2. Luisa Chantler, our youngest athlete in this competition ran the 800m for the first time, well done Luisa! The 1500m race was a good one with Mya Walker coming in 1st in the B string with a PB of 5.54.7 and Elissa Clark running a PB in the A string of 5.37.8
On the field Danielle Anderson won the Javelin with a throw of 42.52, Jade came 1st in the B string with 1.10m, Tilly gave an impressive show on the pole vault finishing 2nd with a jump of 1.85m a PB for her, Emily Moore jumped a new PB in triple jump with 10.12m, Mya threw a PB in the A string javelin with 13.22, with Elissa in the B string gaining a PB of 10.26. There were new times for the younger athletes, Luisa had a go at the long jump, jumping 3.09, Beth threw a shot with a distance of 4.90 and Elissa the discus at 9.99
We were very proud of all the athletes on Saturday, it was amazingly hot, they were stood in the heat for a long time doing field events and running in that heat was a challenge, but special mentions must go to Sarah Davies, who ran in 1500m, 3000m and the 4 x 400m relay – Wow! Also to Luisa Chantler who at still only 10 years of age, did everything that was asked of her without complaint and was all in all ‘a little star!’
A very big thank you to everyone, here’s looking forward to the 26th June.
