What and who is the Athletics Network?
The Oxforshire Athletics Network is a collection organisations working together for the good of athletics including:
Oxford City AC,
Radley AC,
White Horse Harriers AC,
Bicester AC,
Abingdon Amblers AC,
Goring & Wallingford,
Woodstock Harriers,
Oxford University AC,
Road Running clubs to be engaged…
Oxfordshire Sports Partnership partners including:
The 5 district councils:
Cherwell, Oxford City, South Oxfordshire, Vale of White Horse, West Oxfordshire.
The 5 School Sports Partnerships:
North Oxfordshire, Thame and Oxford, South Oxfordshire, Vale PESSYP, West Oxfordshire
All coming together with the aim of sharing resources to facilitate an improvement in both the quality and quantity of the provision of Athletics in our clubs geographic area.
Aims
• Encourage more people into the sport in the lead up to and beyond 2012.
o Athletes at all levels and ages into all disciplines.
o Encourages more volunteers to be part of the sport (officials, coaches and helpers).
• Bring clubs together to work better together and get the best for athletics in Oxfordshire.
• Providing the link between schools and clubs.
• Oxfordshire Athletics Network to recruit a part-time Athletics Activator and part-time coaches to work with our school and clubs.
Key outcomes
• £85k funding from England Athletics for Oxfordshire through to March 2012.
• More members for clubs that are part of the network.
• Support for improving coaching structures and coaches through sharing expertise and running coach development sessions (e.g. Flying coaches).
• Helping clubs to attract more volunteers.
• Improved links between schools and clubs by providing 750 hours of coaching in local schools.
• New U20 Oxfordshire Network National Junior League team.
What we are asking clubs for…
• To work together for the good of Oxfordshire Athletics.
• Commit the time to support the network.
• Small financial contribution to help make the scheme sustainable - £1 per athlete in your club.
What clubs should get by being part of the network…
• Improved communication – Athletics Activator working part-time.
• More people to help run your club (volunteers/coaches).
• More people doing athletics – some in your club if you need them.
• Assistance with Clubmark accreditation.
