Oxford City AC juniors excel oversea's IOW

Oxford City Girls team don't often need to leave at 6.15am, take a coach, a ferry and then another coach journey to get to a fixture but nothing is too much trouble for this fabulous team and despite the early start Oxford City recorded a victory over rivals Marlborough and Isle of Wight and  3 other teams.
In the U13's Alice Hopkins won the day producing PB's in all her events - 100m 14.80 - 200m 30.10 and a stunning 13.30 in the 70m hurdles. Beth Mulvany ran an extraordinary PB in the 800m - 2;29.7 cheered on by all her team mates as were all the girls.  Charlotte Stafford ran just outside her PB in the 800m but that was enough to come first in the Bs string 800m.  With a cracking run by Elisha Evans running a PB of 4;16.4 in the 1200m we could not be beaten at distance. On the field Shaznay Sumbu jumped a PB of 3.66 in the Long Jump with Elisha Evans jumping exactly the same distance in the B string - a PB for her as well. Both Charlotte Smith and Beth Mulvany jumped an amazing 1.30 in the High Jump with Charlotte Smith taking 1st place in the Javelin with a throw of 16.64.
The U13's rounded of the day coming 1st with a beautifully executed relay and came 2nd with 81 points.
The U15's also achieved 2nd place with 77 points. Amy Busby came joint 1st in the 100m which spurred her on in  the 200m so that she took 1st in 26.5 with Jess Daniels taking 1st in the B string setting the team off to a great a start. Both Elissa Clarke and Emily Murphy valiantly ran the 300m keeping us in the points.  On the field Amy Busby jumped a cracking PB of 4.82 in the long jump with Jess Daniels taking second in the shot. Rachel Munday, standing in at the last minute gained us valuable points in the discus and the shot with Hannah Isherwood and Mya Walker scoring in the javelin.
The U17's also came second but with a huge 101 points. Adela Hussain ran a fabulous 100m in a PB of 13.20 only just pipped at the post and then beating her PB in the 200m - 27.60 again taking second. Zoe Webber ran a PB in the 200m of 29.60.  We cleaned up in the 800m with Ellie Burns winning A in 2;31.1 and Jess Anstice winning B in 2;56.6. Once again distance proved our strength as Jade Walker and Kathryn Munday took A and B strings in the 1500m. The U17' were consistent in the field events with Jade Walker throwing a PB of 15.38 in the discus.
The enthusiastic support of athletes by their team mates played a huge part in our winning!

Oxford City AC athletes showed great consistency to win their latest Wessex League match at the Fairway Athletics Centre, Isle of Wight on Sunday.  For the umpteenth time this season the boys took to the field without a clutch of their strongest middle distance runners, but Ryan Meredith, Alex Cooper, Michael Ruiz, Tom Downes, Harry Peach and Adam Smith showed up well, Ryan winning the U17 A string 1500m and the others all gaining valuable points in 800m and 1500m races. Again it was the sprinters, throwers and jumpers who starred, with the outstanding performance of the day being Andrew Busby’s 1.81cm leap in the high jump, to improve again on his personal best and take maximum points in the A string.  Oxford’s sprinters have had a golden season, and on Sunday they again dominated, with Alfie Howlett winning the u13 B string 200m, David Sonan winning the A string u15 100m (11.9s), Ben Daniels the u13 B string 75mH, Gift McLaren the 100m and 200m u17 A strings, and Marcus Woodington the u17 A string 400m, and A string 100m Hurdles.  The mighty Tomasz Napiorkowski won the A string u15 discus and shot, and got second place in the javelin B string, while Tom Anstice got a valuable second place in the A string javelin and second place in the B string discus. The day ended well with 4 x 100m relay victories for the u13 and u17 boys, the u17s being only 1.4s short of breaking a 41yr old club record, which may yet fall this season.  This was a good all round performance from the Oxford team, demonstrating once again that they have strength in all events and the confidence to keep winning.
