Sandra Luke Memorial 5 Star & 10 Step Competition
In its 29 year history, rarely has the Oxford City 5 Star and 10 Step Competition witnessed so much top class athletics in a single day. In good conditions, with sun and a breeze to assist throwers and sprinters, and with more than 400 competitors taking part, the scene was set for a hard fought contest. In the end the competition produced some outstanding individual performances, a handful of records, and countless personal bests.
Win for Hannah at Loughborough international
Hannah England triumphed in the 800m over close rival Charlene Thomas. Following a stint at altitude in California during the winter season, she came back to the track looking strong with a time of 2.02:31. Thomas, who challenged the 1500m at the World Championships in Berlin last year, followed in 2.02:56.
Oxford Track & Field League Match 2
For a change it was the u13 and u15 boys who led the way, with the u17s under strength due to illness and exams. There were 4 first places for the u13s, with Alfie Howlett bagging the best of them with a strong showing in the A string shot, but Adam Smith and Harry Peach were not far behind with good B string victories in the 100m and High Jump.
SWL Division 2 Braunton North West Devon
This weekends Southern Women League match got off to a disorganised start when Jackie (one of the team managers) realised at 3.30pm on Friday that she had booked the adults into the B&B for the wrong weekend! Oh dear, could this be an omen?
Men finish 5th in Bexley
This time only managing to field 8 athletes in this match Oxford were beaten to the post on the day and finished 5th overall. With 7 seasons best and 5 personal best performances once again the team pulled together on a cold day against some very good competition which included, Kent AC and GB international Conrad Williams.
Juniors win NYAL
Both the girls and boys teams were severely depleted by Oxford United playing at Wembley on the same day, but despite spreading ourselves thinly we managed a convincing win over rivals Leamington and Swindon. The day was overshadowed by the pouring rain that blighted the last half of the competition so an enormous thank you to those who stayed all day only to have their later events cancelled. Despite everything the team spirit once again shone through and many of the performances were outstanding.

Ashley inspires the men to win in opening SML
Heart and determination was the hot topic for Oxford City as they recorded their first win of the season in the southern men's league division 2 at Hemel Hempstead. Oxford fielded only eleven athletes who pulled together to cover all scoring events on the day and finished no lower than 3rd place in many of the events. Andrew Tippet and Ben Kelsey achieved the teams only A-String 1st places, Tippet took a hurdles double with 57.3secs and 16.8secs and Kelsey winning the shot with a distance of 12.74m.
