England has consolation in defeat

Oxford City’s Hannah England had the consolation of a season’s best time as she finished third to Lisa Dobriskey in the women’s 1500m at the Aviva British Grand Prix at Gateshead.

England, who had world silver medallist Dobriskey back in third when winning the UK Championship in Birmingham two weeks ago, saw the tables turned in emphatic fashion.

This time, Commonwealth Games champion Dobriskey used her trademark turn of pace to pull clear in the final 200m, taking victory in 4mins 3.69secs to defeat the USA’s Morgan Uceny, who recorded 4.04.26.

Ace Wilson takes silver

Congratulations go out to Oxford City AC Sprinter Jacob Wilson won silver for Oxfordshire at the Aviva ESAA English Schools’ Track & Field Championships at Alexander Stadium, Birmingham.

The 17-year-old, from Cokethorpe School, Witney, was runner-up in the senior boys’ 100m in a time of 10.92secs.

Hannah England storms to victory at European Trials

Hannah England banished her World Championship demons with a storming victory at the European Trials and UK Championships - and booked her place on the plane to Barcelona.
The 23-year-old came home third at the World Trials a year ago in Birmingham and despite having already achieved the qualifying standard, she was overlooked for the trip to Berlin in favour of Lisa Dobriskey.

A Day for Sport

Sport England is launching a new initiative - A Day for Sport, which will take place on 15th July 2010. The aim of the day is to get more Sport England employees directly helping people play and enjoy sport.
The day will see a number of people exchange the office for the ‘frontline’, volunteering at various locations across the country to support a range of sporting activities, from assisting coaches in delivering sport to maintaining facilities (whether that’s helping paint the clubhouse, mowing the pitch, or sweeping the courts!)
