Hannah England banished her World Championship demons with a storming victory at the European Trials and UK Championships - and booked her place on the plane to Barcelona.
The 23-year-old came home third at the World Trials a year ago in Birmingham and despite having already achieved the qualifying standard, she was overlooked for the trip to Berlin in favour of Lisa Dobriskey.
UKA head coach Charles van Commenee's decision to pick Dobriskey was vindicated when the Brit romped to silver in Berlin - but England's snub was a difficult one to stomach.
She has since decided to put all her eggs in the 1500m basket, having impressed over 800m last season, breaking the two-minute barrier for the first time at the 2009 European Team Championships in Portugal.
But a year on and England was adamant she was not going to leave her place in the European Championship squad to chance and she cruised home in Birmingham in 4:33.23.
"It's massively different to last year, I felt so composed all the way round and I was in control with what I was doing and sticking with everyone else," said England, who is a product of the On Camp With Kelly scheme - an initiative for middle-distance runners initiated by double Olympic champion Dame Kelly Holmes.
"It gives me so much more confidence going forward, especially after the disappointment of last year.
"I had a bit of a think about last year this morning. However, I decided that was that and I would put it out of my mind because it was such a tough time, I was so miserable.
"But now I have a happy memory of Birmingham.
"I had a really nice text from Kelly just before the heat on Friday. She follows me closely and she told me to just keep my head in the last 100m because I tend to get a bit desperate.
"And I managed to follow that and execute today which is a great feeling."
