Oxford City’s Hannah England had the consolation of a season’s best time as she finished third to Lisa Dobriskey in the women’s 1500m at the Aviva British Grand Prix at Gateshead.
England, who had world silver medallist Dobriskey back in third when winning the UK Championship in Birmingham two weeks ago, saw the tables turned in emphatic fashion.
This time, Commonwealth Games champion Dobriskey used her trademark turn of pace to pull clear in the final 200m, taking victory in 4mins 3.69secs to defeat the USA’s Morgan Uceny, who recorded 4.04.26.
England had to settle for the minor honours in 4.04.33, while Helen Clitheroe set a UK over-35 record of 4.06.04.
The victory confirmed Dobriskey’s return to form following injury after she ran a quick time in Lausanne on Thursday evening to move top of the British rankings.
