Congratulations to Oxford City AC Juniors in winning the Wessex League

At the beginning of the morning, our last Wessex league competition of the season, little did we know how hot it would get.  Not only did a very hot sun come out but the temperature of the competition rose rapidly.  We had to win to give us a chance of winning the league and even then we would have to wait for other match results to find out our final league position. A core group of U13's who had competed so brilliantly all season were snatched by the county selectors for their event on the same day.  A huge thank you to Charlotte Stafford who chose to compete for us and won the hurdles in 13.30, came first in the B string in the shot and 2nd, with a G4 performance in the 1200m in 4;22.8. However, the day belonged to Alice Byles who scored PB's in all her performances. 14.10 in the 100m, 29.10  and a G3 performance in the 200m and a new PB in the discus. With great performances from the rest of team the U13's took 2nd place - a good start to the day.
The U15's who have struggled for a team all season were out in force and won their age group by 10points, a fantastic achievement rounded off by a second in the relay which caused much celebration as they regularly only managed 3rd place through the season.
Well done to Jess Daniels who ran a PB of 28.8 in the 200m and threw a PB of 7.66 in the shot. Jess jumped 1.40 in the high jump matching her PB but could only stand in awe and watch as Maike Chapel continued raising the bar.  Having previously jumped 1.52 in training it was fabulous watching her taking her time and jumping a PB of 1.58 giving us a clear win in the high jump.  Maike also ran a PB of 12.80 in the 75m hurdles taking 2nd place. Amy Busby will soon need a bigger pit for her long jump as she jumped an amazing PB of 4.85m.  Flora Loake ran a PB in the 1500m and jumped a PB in the long jump so helping the team to win the much needed points.
The U17's also took first place, a massive 60 points ahead of their nearest rivals. Everyone was on top form with notable performances once again from Adela Hussain, with three 1sts, 100m, 200m and a G4 PB jump of 4.86 in the long jump.  Becky Hill also jumping a PB of 4.30 gave us 1st in the B string as well.  Kathryn Munday ran a brillaint 300m in a PB of 46.10 and Lauren Hawtin gave us firsts in the 800 and 1500m.
Well Done to everyone, every last effort counted as we won the league by 1/2 a point!!
Champion.
There were 29 personal bests for the boys. The outstanding performances were victories in the 100m A string sprints in all age groups – Adam Smith, David Sonan and Gift McLaren, and a clean sweep in the A string 200m races for George Burton, David Sonan and Gift McLaren. There was also a double clean sweep in the u13 high jump and long jump for A and B strings, this time George Burton, Harry Peach, Adam Smith and Nirushan Parameswaran. Other notable performances among the u15s were a new PB for Max Tavinor in the A string 80m Hurdles (13.2s), Chinedum Echeta in the B string long jump (4.76m), and for the second week running impressive wins for Tomasz Napiorkowski, putting 13.55m in the A string shot and a huge new personal best of 39.28m in the A string discus. Among the u17s Gift McLaren equalled his PB in the 100m with 11.4s before lowering his 200m PB to 23.7s, while Ollie Wingfield showed up well to win the B string Discus with 25.51m, and B string javelin with 29.80m, both big personal bests.
