Brilliant Beth beats 800m pb by eleven seconds to gain AAA grade 1 performance

The personal bests came thick and fast on a hot and humid afternoon in Woking. Adam Smith, small of stature but big in personality, led the way with three PBs in the u13 100m (13.9s), Long Jump (4.47m) and Javelin (22.17), setting a standard which saw a total of 28 PBs throughout the boys team. Gutsy u13s Jake Molan and Finn Johnson-Ward also claimed three PBS, Jake in the 800m, shot and discus, Finn Johnson-Ward in the 800m,shot and long jump, despite getting an early knock in the 800m which slowed him down.  Overall the u13s battled well on a day when first places were hard to find, and can be proud of all their efforts; thanks especially to Aidan Bradley for tacking the sprints on a hot day in his first match.
The u15s were patchy on a day when, with a full team and no injuries, they would otherwise have been right up with powerful teams from Marlborough and Southampton. Matthew Gain continued his good form from Banbury last week by shaving one tenth of a second off both his 100m and 200m PBs to record 11.7s and 23.7s, but was still beaten into second place by one tenth of a second in both races. 11.5s and 23.5s cannot be far off. David Sonan began to look like the speed merchant we know him to be in training, comfortably winning the B string 100m in 12.2s, and will go faster this year.  He also got third in the A string javelin with a handy throw of 30.73m. Both Alex Cooper and Chinedum Echeta managed two PBs each, Chinedum winning the B stream LJ with 4.39m. Tomasz Napiorkowski was edged into 2nd place in the shot, but made up by winning the A string discus with 31.84m, a massive 7m improvement on his PB, to go with a PB in the javelin.
The u17 boys again proved unbeatable, despite lacking middle distance runners, claiming four 1st places and five 2nd places against good opponents. Tom Downs ran to a gutsy victory in the A string 200m after competing in five events for the senior team the day before, while Ifeanyi Echeta ran PBs of 12s and 25.1s in the 100m and 200m B string, and threw a PB of 8.80m in the shot; he is now beginning to show the strength to match his ability. Marcus Woodington took the 100m hurdles and gained valuable second places and PBs in the 400m (54.3s) and javelin (43.12m – a massive 6m improvement ),while Mark Warland, threw beyond 30m in the discus for the second week running, to add to a B string first place and 31.06m throw in the javelin. The afternoon was polished off with the closest of finishes in the 4 x 100m relay, won from Woking by a vest’s width, by a very tired Ifeanyi.
Outstanding performances once again from the U13 girls.  On the track they proved almost unbeatable with Simi Fajemisin running PB's in both the 100m - 13.5 and the 200m - 27.6.
Beth Mulvany shone in the 800m running a PB of 2.30.6 with Charlotte Stafford winning the B string with a PB of 2.37.6.  Storm Sunderland ran against incredibly strong competition and came so close to beating her 4min target with Katie Gregory in the B string coming in at 4;23.4.  Shaznay Sumbu smiled through the hurdles in 13.6 and Danielle came in first for the B string. Well done to Luisa Chantler who taught first time shot competitor, Katie Gregory so well that Katie threw 5.78 and  came third overall. The relay said it all as the girls were way ahead of any opposition.
The U13's came first with 102 points - 18 ahead of their nearest rivals!
Once again the U15's had to pull out all the stops with only 5 athletes in their team but a big thanks and well done to those who entered events that were not their favourites.  An outstanding run by Amy Busby of 26.3 in the 200m gave her a G1 performance- the team were so excited for her.
Despite exams we had a top U17's team who achieved fantastic results coming 1st in their age group.  Adela Hussain, Zoe Webber and Sarah Akponasa all ran PB's with Jade Walker and Rebecca Byren taking 1sts in the 1500m and Emily Carstairs and Amy Cooper the same in the Shot.  Sarah Akponasa threw a PB of 15.33 in the discus with Tilly Vaughan Fowler throwing 27.22 in the Javelin.
The U17's scored 113 points just ahead of strong competitors, Southampton.

Overall we came joint second despite a couple of drop outs - think what we could have done with a full team?
