Nominations for the 2010 Oxfordshire Sports Awards open in ten days time – with the Oxford Mail this year’s official media partner.
The 2010 event at the Kassam Stadium on Friday, November 26 is set to be the biggest and best yet as we hunt for the top performers across the county.
And we need you to get behind the sporting stars in Oxfordshire who have excelled on the local, national or international stage over the past year.

October 3-14.
OCAC Ladies shine in Salisbury SWL Division 1West 7th August 2010
Some of our regular athletes were on holiday or otherwise engaged for this competition, but we did have some new additions to the team which meant that we managed to cover nearly all of the events with an A string and a B string, we therefore gained lots of valuable points and finished the competition with a very credible 501 points, leaving us in first place.
Chapel: Prayers Answered
National Combined Events Championships – Stoke – 8/8/2010
U15 Girls Pentathlon
Two years into her training Maike Chapel finally got to compete in all 5 of the disciplines at the national championships in Stoke. Maike has suffered from ankle and tendon problems for the past 2 years and has been unable to compete and complete the demanding pentathlon. In this, her last opportunity as an U15, she certainly did not disappoint.
Hannah takes positives
Oxford City’s Hannah England admitted she ran out of gas in the final of the 1500m at the European Championships in Barcelona after attempting to go toe-to-toe with the best on the continent.
England breathed a huge sigh of relief earlier in the week after sneaking into the medal showdown as one of the fastest losers – despite clocking 4.06.03seconds to finish eighth in her semi-final.
The 23-year-old lowered her time by nearly a second in the final to finish tenth with Spaniard Nuria Fernandez taking gold to stun favourite Hind Dehiba and delight the home crowd.
Nathan stays upbeat
Oxford City’s Nathan Douglas remains positive about his future, despite bowing out after three jumps in the triple jump final.
Douglas, who qualified for the final with a leap of 16.80m, failed to repeat the feat in the final, with a best jump of 16.48.
But, having been a major doubt before the championships because of a nagging injury, Douglas said: “Obviously it was disappointing.
“But this shows where I am. Three weeks before the UK trials it looked as if I wasn’t going to have a season, so I did well just to get to Barcelona.”
Congratulations to Oxford City AC Juniors in winning the Wessex League
At the beginning of the morning, our last Wessex league competition of the season, little did we know how hot it would get. Not only did a very hot sun come out but the temperature of the competition rose rapidly. We had to win to give us a chance of winning the league and even then we would have to wait for other match results to find out our final league position.
OCAC Keep the Dream Alive
The final match of the SML had finally arrived, and the team, who had managed to find a few extra athletes to make up the numbers for one final push to avoid relegation, headed to Guildford.
